Nick McGough

BSc Hons Dip Arch ARB RIBA

MArchD Design Studio Tutor (DS6)
Project Architect: GRIMSHAW
Founder: OxArch

Nick McGough is a British/Spanish architect and educator with over 10 years experience in the construction industry. During his time at Bath University Nick developed an interest in cybernetic systems and in 2003 had a number of inspirational discussions with Dr Julian Vincent regarding the potential for biomimetics in architecture and specifically the application of auxetic structures. Following this, Nick's student work was both published in the Architects' Journal and exhibited at Modern Art Oxford. This interest in technology, structure, systems and networks was developed in the context of a deep personal preoccupation with the notion of place and identity; given the homogenisation of western society in the late capitalist, globalised, networked, instant and branded world we now inhabit. Much of this thinking has manifested itself in Nick's involvement in airport, rail and bridge design projects while at Grimshaw's London studio.

Outside practice, Nick is active in teaching design having been a Visiting Teaching Fellow at Bath University from 2011 and running a Masters Design Studio at the Oxford School of Architecture since 2014. Nick has also been invited as a guest critic at Schools of Architecture in London as well as Bath and Oxford.
