Subject Co-Ordinator for Sustainable Building: Performance and Design
Senior lecturer in the School of Architecture and Subject Co-ordinator for SBPD. He undertook his MSc degree during 2005/06 at Oxford Brookes University following the completion of his BA Honours (RIBA part 1) and Postgraduate Diploma (RIBA Part 2) also at Oxford Brookes University. Since then Hossein had been working in two professional practices whilst he completed his RIBA Part 3 during 2007/8 obtaining a further Postgraduate Diploma before starting his PhD research at Loughborough University in 2013.

His interest in low carbon building and sustainability started during his earlier education and has continued to date. His PhD research was to incorporate the use of natural ventilation in Passivhaus buildings, reducing any overheating potential. He has also attended a train the trainer course for delivering Passivhaus material in Dublin in 2012 and has a strong connection and contact with the Passivhaus community both nationally and internationally.
During his professional experience, he has worked on a number of different projects including one off residential houses, multi residential buildings, leisure centres, airport, YMCA buildings, schools, master planning, Eco town, Passivhaus dwellings, EnerPhit dwellings and achieved BREEAM Excellent as well as code for sustainable homes. He still continues to practice as an Architect undertaking client projects interested in low carbon buildings.
Hossein has been teaching at Oxford Brookes University since 2009 as a guest lecturer and associate lecturer before being appointed as a senior lecturer in 2015. He also attends conferences and gives lectures at other universities such as Coventry University. He is also an associate fellow of the higher education academy as well as ARB registered and an RIBA Chartered Architect.
Research interest is mainly in indoor air quality, thermal comfort, zero carbon buildings, Passivhaus buildings, overheating, climate change and natural ventilation.
He is currently working on a paper highlighting overheating potential in Passivhaus buildings and associated solutions to be published shortly.
