What made you choose Brookes as a place to study?

As per my specialisation mentioned above, I wanted to progress my studies in Sustainable Design and Brookes has a strong department in this area. Also, the new Abercrombie facilities offer a brilliant creative studio environment that I find enriches my time while studying here. Having several likeminded departments all in one building allow for many spaces to work in to suit everyone and provides an enjoyable interaction between disciplines.

What do/ did you think of the course now you're here?

As I come to the end of my first year in Master’s, I think the variety of areas offered at Brookes is great. Not only are we encouraged to develop our interests further, but the opportunity of interdisciplinary work with other fields within design broaden our spectrum and result in enhanced and more in depth projects.

What are the best bits of studying at Brookes?

It’s the combination of various things that come together and make studying at Brookes valuable. The facilities are incredible; JHB offers all sorts of study areas and has several eateries and social places. Within Architecture, we are fortunate to have our own space to work, model make, and experiment in the workshops, always assisted by incredibly helpful staff. All the staff so far have so many years of experience in their specific fields that we feel fortunate to be tutored by them.

What advice do you have for others?

With regards to my area, I’d always suggest prospective architecture students should, where possible, visit the facilities beforehand. You’ll be working there on a daily basis and it’s good to have an idea of the space and atmosphere.

What are your plans for when you’ve completed your course, for work or further study?

Once having completed my MArchD I look forward to being able to return to working in practice and applying all the knowledge acquired in my Part II course, ideally directly relatedto sustainable architecture.
