Sustainable Building: Performance and Design MA with the School of Architecture, 2008 - 2009.

Questions and answers:

Before you came to Brookes what did you study and where?

I completed my undergraduate and post-graduate studies at Oxford Brookes University.

What made you choose Brookes as a place to study?

The school of Architecture has a very good international and national reputation. In 2002 during my last year of A levels I met Bill Dunster (well known sustainable architect) who recommended I apply to Brookes.

What do you think of the course now you’re here?

The MSc gave me exactly the skills I hoped to gain as an architecture graduate who has specialised in sustainable building design.

What are your plans for when you’ve completed your course, for work or further study?

I plan to undertake a part-time PhD looking at growing food on buildings at the OISD architecture unit and work part-time in an architecture practice that works on sustainable housing projects.

What are the best bits of studying at Brookes?

Oxford Brookes has a very good studio culture. The tutors are also extremely good at what they do both as teachers and academics.

What advice do you have for others?

Make sure you follow your passion (what’s driving you to do the course?) head on. If you don’t know what your passion is, try to find it. Enjoy every moment, the good and the bad, because if you’re not happy with your course now, how do you know you’ll be happy doing it in practice?.
