I've been interested in developing a career in regeneration for some time now and after researching the available courses, MA (IARD) stood out from all the others on offer. I was particularly drawn to the multi-disciplinary nature of the course and also its holistic approach to the subject. Studying with people of different cultural backgrounds and from a variety of disciplines was also appealing as I felt this added another interesting dimension and would be useful experience for my future career. I also felt the course provided us with all the necessary theoretical context while including a highly practical element which, when combined, would ensure a good grounding in the subject.
Finally, I was really impressed by how approachable the course staff were and how generous they were with their time while I was making the decision whether to apply. I was even invited to sit in on a studio class and talk with the students about their experiences which I found so positive and beneficial that it was the turning point in making my decision.
Receiving this award means finally having the opportunity to fulfil my ambition of developing a career in the regeneration sector. I believe that a career in regeneration would enable me to help create positive, sustainable change in the landscape and within the community. Without this scholarship I would not have had the opportunity to study the course at this time.
Generally I've had a really positive experience at the University so far. I was impressed at how smooth the enrolment process was in comparison to a previous experience at a different university. I think the calibre of teaching staff is excellent at Brookes, and their dedication to providing a high standard of education is admirable.
