Andy Cook

Andy Cook studied MSc in Sustainable Building: Performance and Design, full-time.

Before you came to Brookes what did you study and where?

BSc in Geography at Leeds University.

What made you choose Brookes as a place to study?

The range of modules on the course, recommendations from previous students and because the course covered non-greenwashing theme.

What do you think of the course now you’re here?

It was brilliant – thoroughly impressed.

What were the best bits of studying at Brookes?

John Henry Brookes building is superb. Facilities were great and lecturers were genuinely inspiring.

What advice do you have for others?

Embrace what the course has to offer, learn as much as you can as I have found most of it applicable since leaving.

After graduating from Brookes what were the next steps for your career and where are you working now?

I got a job as a sustainability consultant at Max Fordham LLP 2 weeks after finishing my dissertation. I would have become a Passivhaus consultant before doing so but I didn’t have the time.

What so far have been the best moments?

Working for a company that embraces sustainable design to its core, working on projects that are genuinely pushing the boundaries (I am currently working on a planning application for a hotel which incorporates a closed loop system; with food grown on the roof).

What so far have been the most challenging moments?

Spending 22 hours in the office to finish something for a deadline. This was a one off though; it’s nowhere near usually that busy.
