Questions and answers:

  1. What made you decide to come to Oxford Brookes University?
  2. The DEP program which Oxford Brookes University offers is quite unique in that it gives due importance to practical applications as much as to research based theoretical presentations. This course attracts development practitioners, people with professions that deal with disasters and emergencies as well as international people from all over the world.

The other important factor is that Oxford Brookes is one of the few academic institutions I have learnt of who value relevant field experience. I was accepted to the program based on my 34 years of relevant development and emergency work and not on prior qualification (degree).

  3. What does this Scholarship mean to you? Did this award enable you to study at Oxford Brookes?
  4. The scholarship means a great deal. It gave me the opportunity in a lifetime to get the qualification I have always dreamt of. It will also open up opportunities for me to contribute more to the field. If it had not been for this scholarship, I would not have afforded to come to Oxford Brookes. Thus, I would not have a chance for this qualification.

  5. How have you found your experiences of the University so far?
  6. Amazing. Coming to live in another country is a huge step. Becoming a student at an advanced age is also a challenge. However, the support system at the University is so good that I did not feel lost or overwhelmed by any of it. From the minute I got off the bus to the present time, I was taken care of by one support group or other. All the logistics, administrative, assistance, the mature students’ advisor, the spiritual services, the career support, the health service is all well organized and I find everyone involved very helpful and very pleasant.

The course, the modules, the lecturers are all beyond my expectations. I am learning a great deal and the experience exchange is a very invaluable part of it.

The library is absolutely great. The computer access and efficiency is a luxury for me.
