Faculty hosts International Welcome Event

The Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment hosted its first cross-Faculty International Student Welcome Event in October with resounding success.

The School of Architecture has successfully held International Student Welcome Events the past two years, and this year the welcome event gave new international students the opportunity to meet their peers from the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the Faculty, and an important chance to get an idea of what to expect in the coming years from current international students who spoke about their experiences at Brookes.

The School of Architecture and School of the Built Environment jointly hosted the event in the Abercrombie Atrium at the Headington Campus and the Department of Computing and Communication Technologies and Department of Mechanical and Mathematical Sciences jointly hosted the event at the Wheatley campus. With the best turn out yet, there were over 70 staff and students in attendance.

Staff members from the Faculty Executive Office, School and Department academics and support staff joined the event to make the new students feel welcome by talking to them about their new life at Brookes. Brookes Union facilitated a networking initiative, and the International Student Advice Team (ISAT) and Oxford Brookes International Team (OBI) were also on hand to give the students all the advice they needed about starting their new life in the UK and at the University.

The event had a great turn out, and proved to be an important tool for connecting new international students and preparing them for the transition to Brookes.
