The Design Research Exhibitionists

The exhibition by "The Design Research Exhibitionsits" or Research-led Design (RLD) and Major Study(MS) students ran from Friday 24th February to Wednesday 29th February 2012 at Fusion Arts in Oxford.

The aim of the exhibition was to offer the work of twenty-two Part II architectural student exhibitionists as potential responses to the following questions: What could constitute architectural design research? How might architectural research benefit from opening its disciplinary boundaries?

The design research produced was deliberately critical and based on a ‘reflection in action’ (Schön) process of researching, reflecting and designing in a cyclical architectural design process. Students used a mixture of conventional methodologies associated with Masters research and architectural design as well as unconventional/trans-disciplinary research methods including quilt-making, film-making, biomimetic folding, prototyping, storyboarding, hacking, geological and archaeological drawing, social networking etc.

The exhibition was curated by Dr Igea Troiani and the RLD/MS students.
