OISD researcher receives funding for innovative energy-saving project
Professor Rajat Gupta, Professor of Sustainable Architecture and Climate Change and Director of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development (OISD) has received significant funding for an upcoming research project.
The grant, worth £107,000, has been awarded by the TSB/DECC’s national programme 'Invest in Innovative Refurbishment'.
Professor Gupta's research project is a case study on innovative internal wall insulation for the refurbishment of historic buildings, focusing on the Bicester Town Council offices. It is a Phase 2 implementation project followed by detailed post-refurbishment building performance evaluation.
The project seeks to achieve a step-change reduction in primary energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by employing an innovative application of internal insulation technology in combination with secondary glazing and ventilation strategies. Gupta and his team will be working in collaboration with Bioregional Ltd, Bicester Town Council and Ridge.
The overall aim is to open up a new area of research in responsible low energy refurbishment and building performance evaluation of historic buildings. The project will also help with the EcoBicester-OISD ‘Living Lab initiative’ that Gupta is currently developing.
