Competition judges commend Oxford Brookes architecture students for the quality and individuality of their work
Timbmet has again sponsored a competition for students of architecture at Oxford Brookes University to design a demountable timber pavilion. The winning design will be erected as part of the TRADA stand at Ecobuild in March 2012. All student models will be displayed on the winning pavilion.

Winning pavilion design by Oxford Brookes BA Architecture student installed at 2011 Ecobuild Exhibition
Students were encouraged to experiment with form and space, and tasked to design a timber pavilion with a footprint of 20 square metres which would exploit the architectural, aesthetic, structural and sustainable attributes of timber and serve as a showcase for 3D models of all the shortlisted entries.

A knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) between Oxford Brookes University and the Architectural practice, Architype Ltd has resulted in their being shortlisted for the 'Cut the Carbon' Award category for the 2011 Building Awards, to be announced on March 3rd 2011.

Major ESRC Grant to lead cutting-edge research on low carbon communities
Low-carbon building and climate change expert, Dr Rajat Gupta, has been awarded a major research grant of £1.14 million by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to lead an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Oxford Brookes University (OBU) and University of Oxford (OU) on a three-year research project worth £1.37 million.

Architecture BA graduate is announced second prize winner of Bauhaus Solar Award
In the awards ceremony held in Erfurt, Germany on the 10th November 2010, Matt Townsend was endowed with 1.500 EUR for his innovative 'H2sOlar - Solar powered water filtration facility'. The design was initally produced as part of his 3rd year undergraduate studio work. Done in Semester 1, 2009-2010, it was part of the Unit C studio programme led by Igea Troiani and Andrew Dawson which focused on 'Architecture, Ecology and Science-fiction'.

Oxford Brookes Architecture students excel in Buckminster Fuller Institute project
In February 2010, Oxford Brookes University students from the Department of Architecture in Oxford, UK visited the Buckminster Fuller Institute in New York. The group of 25 students were part of a mixed 2nd and 3rd year architectural design studio lead by Igea Troiani and Andrew Dawson.

Roots Architecture Challenge
The 1st Roots Architecture Workshop is being held at the WOMAD Roots Architecture festival at Charlton Park from 22nd - 25th July 2010, showcasing sustainable architecture and building projects worldwide in the humanitarian and aid sector, ranging from emergency shelter to community development and buildings.

IARD Students at INTBAU Charrette in Norway
IARD students Chris Millar and Kathryn Hay travelled to Evje in southern Norway to participate in a charrette training course run by the International Network for Traditional Buildings Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU). They joined architects, urban designers and other built environment professionals from around the world to participate in this collaborative design workshop involving a wide range of stakeholders.
